MARK DWYER
Mark's program will include works of Bach, Dumage, Sowerby and Gade.
Well-known as both a skilled church musician as well as concert artist, Mark Dwyer is the Organist and Choirmaster of The Church of the Advent, Boston. He comes to this position from St. Paul’s Church, K Street in Washington. Previously, he held a similar post as Director of Music at The Cathedral of All Saints, Albany. Mr. Dwyer is active as a concert artist, having presented recitals throughout the eastern United States and in England. His work as conductor, accompanist and recitalist may be heard on the JAV, Arsis, and AFKA recording labels.
Mr. Dwyer has been Sub-Dean of the Eastern New York Chapter of the American Guild of Organists and served on the Standing Committee for the 2003 Region II Convention held in Albany. He also served on the Program Committee and was Workshop Coordinator for the 1999 American Guild of Organists Region I Convention held in Worcester, Massachusetts. He has also served on the Executive Board of the Boston Chapter of the Guild and the Alfred Nash Patterson Grants Committee of Choral Arts New England. He is Organist and Choirmaster and on the teaching faculty of Saint Michael’s Conference for Young People, an Episcopal Church summer conference for one-hundred young adults now in its fifty-first year. He has served churches throughout the New England states, and also served on the Faculty of the Dexter School in Brookline, Massachusetts. A graduate of the New England Conservatory, his teachers include Yuko Hayashi, William Porter, Frank Taylor and Charles Krigbaum.
American Record Guide refers to Mr. Dwyer as “...a formidable interpreter, with plenty of technique and—more important—a very musical approach.” The Journal of The Anglican Association of Musicians reports: “...Mark shows off [the organ] to spectacular advantage... The playing is solid throughout with a fully formed sense of ...period and style...”
